Astrodynes
Astrodynes represent a quantitative method of analyzing the basic elements of a chart according to fundamental principles of classical astrology. The technique of computing power, harmony, and discord for the various factors in the chart was developed in the 1940’s by the Brotherhood of Light in conjunction with large statistical studies being conducted at the time.
The astrodynes for each planet are computed according to the house position of the planet (closeness to the angles) and the number and strength of the aspects it makes with other planets. In the printout the total astrodynes for each planet are listed under Power, and the percentage which follows shows the planet’s share of the power of all the planets.
Of course, in addition to the power of a planet it is of interest to know the general character of the planet. In astrodyne analysis a very general measure of the character of a planet is given by harmony or discord. By classifying all the various influences upon a planet as either harmonious or discordant, and taking into account their strength, a total value for the harmony of the planet is listed under the column Harmony. Harmony may be thought of as a continuous scale from very harmonious (large positive number) to very discordant (large negative number).
The astrodyne component section of the printout breaks down the individual contributions to power, harmony, and discord from such factors as house position, aspects, essential dignity, and mutual reception.
